Genetic Differences Affect How Cholesterol Levels Relate to Daily Body Clocks in Arctic Residents

The phase angle of physical activity relative to blue light is a predictor of total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels in individuals with the TT/CC genotypes.

  • The study involved 64 participants who underwent seasonal actigraphy and genotyping for specific genetic polymorphisms.
  • Multiple regression analysis indicated that the phase angle of physical activity relative to blue light is significantly associated with cholesterol levels.
  • The TT/CC genotype showed the strongest negative correlation with total cholesterol (r = -0.684) and LDL cholesterol (r = -0.623).
  • The explained variance for total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol was 47% and 39%, respectively, in individuals with the TT/CC combination.
