Among people with , coffee intake within the recommended range was linked to longer telomeres, with the strongest signal at 3-4 cups per day.

Evidence

This cross-sectional study of 436 Norwegian patients with schizophrenia spectrum or affective disorders found an inverted J-shaped association between self-reported coffee intake and leukocyte , with 3-4 cups/day associated with longer telomeres and a difference comparable to about 5 years younger biological age after adjustment.

Caveat

Because the study was cross-sectional and relied on self-reported coffee intake, it cannot show that coffee caused longer telomeres.
