Effectiveness and acceptance of medication, therapy, and combined treatments for adults with posttraumatic stress disorder

Updated

Abstract

A total of 922 participants were included in 12 randomized clinical trials comparing treatments for PTSD.

  • No treatment approach was found to be superior at the end of treatment.
  • Psychotherapeutic treatments showed greater benefit than pharmacological treatments at last follow-up.
  • Combined treatments may lead to better outcomes than pharmacological treatments, according to network meta-analysis.
  • No significant differences in acceptability were found among the three treatment approaches.
  • The lack of long-term data limits definitive conclusions about the effectiveness of these treatment options.
