A total of 549 oncology nurses reported similar levels of compassion fatigue, burnout, and compassion satisfaction.

  • Both American and Canadian oncology nurses exhibited comparable experiences of compassion fatigue and burnout.
  • Perception of team cohesiveness was significantly associated with lower levels of secondary traumatic stress and burnout, and higher compassion satisfaction.
  • Healthy work environments may enhance nurses' well-being and job satisfaction.
  • Improvements in workplace conditions could help reduce nurse turnover and healthcare costs.
