Cost-effectiveness of tirzepatide compared to semaglutide for US patients with obesity or overweight in a direct phase 3 trial

Updated

Abstract

Tirzepatide at its maximum-tolerated dose is associated with a cost saving of $41,688 per patient compared to semaglutide at its maximum-tolerated dose.

  • Tirzepatide (MTD) is estimated to provide a net health benefit with an incremental net health benefit of 0.784.
  • Patients treated with tirzepatide may experience 0.506 quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) gained compared to those treated with semaglutide.
  • The model predicts that for every 1,000 patients treated with tirzepatide, there could be 70 fewer cases of type 2 diabetes and 10 fewer cases of cardiovascular disease.
  • Patients on semaglutide may spend an additional 3.07 years living with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea.
