Health, function, and lung imaging results in COVID-19 patients after three and nine months

Abstract

At 9 months post-infection, 85.3% of COVID-19 patients reported at least one persistent symptom.

  • The most common persistent symptoms included dyspnea (69.6%), cough (35.6%), and chest pain (32.5%).
  • Forced vital capacity (FVC) increased significantly between 3 and 9 months.
  • Distance covered in the six-minute walk test improved significantly from 423.56 m to 464.10 m.
  • Ground-glass opacity persisted in 44.3% of patients at 9 months, down from 90.2% at admission.
  • ICU patients had significantly lower heart function as measured by ejection fraction compared to other groups at 9 months.
  • Thirteen patients developed pulmonary embolism and seven developed new-onset diabetes during follow-up.
