Long COVID after COVID-19 infection during pregnancy in a large Italian hospital

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Among pregnant women hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2 infection, long COVID was common and was linked to respiratory comorbidity, pneumonia, and earlier gestational infection, while vaccination was associated with lower risk.

Evidence

This observational cohort study of 348 pregnant women in one large Italian hospital found 27.0% developed long COVID, and vaccination was associated with lower risk by IPTW-adjusted analysis (OR 0.38, 95% CI 0.20-0.71).

Caveat

Because this was a single-center observational study of hospitalized patients, the associations may reflect residual confounding and may not generalize to all pregnant people with COVID-19.
