A fluorescent sensor using CRISPR technology to detect two harmful toxins at the same time

Abstract

The CRISPR/Cas12a-aptasensor can reliably detect zearalenone (ZEN) and ochratoxin A (OTA) concentrations ranging from 0.25 nM to 256 nM and 1 nM to 1024 nM, respectively.

  • The method employs a Bifunctional aptamer (B-APT) for dual recognition of ZEN and OTA.
  • Distinct emission wavelengths enable simultaneous detection under the same excitation light.
  • Limit of detection (LOD) values are 190 pM for ZEN and 931 pM for OTA.
  • The biosensor shows exceptional selectivity with recovery rates between 89.17% and 109.88% for ZEN and 101.19% to 106.51% for OTA in corn oil samples.
  • Standard curves for both targets are consistent, indicating reliable quantitative measurements.
