Fifty-nine key genes were identified that provide a survival advantage in Bactrian camel immune responses to pathogenic challenges.

  • Distinct gene sets were required for resisting viral and bacterial mimics, indicating different genetic mechanisms for each type of pathogen.
  • Transcriptomic analysis revealed a core immune response program that is regulated differently depending on the type of stimulus.
  • Key genes, such as HSP90AA1 and CSF1, were crucial in both antiviral and antibacterial processes.
  • Dynamic co-expression networks of key genes changed over time, suggesting their specific roles evolve during the immune response.
