Links Between CRY1 Gene Variations and Ovary Shape in Chinese Holstein Dairy Cows

Abstract

CRY1 expression was highest in the ovary of Chinese Holstein dairy cattle, with significant associations found between its genetic variants and ovarian traits.

  • The highest expression of CRY1 was observed in oocytes within the ovary, muscle, and spleen tissues.
  • A six bp insertion/deletion locus in the CRY1 gene was identified in the studied population.
  • Two genotypes were detected: II (83.7%) and ID (16.3%).
  • The indel was significantly associated with the diameters of dominant follicles and corpus albicans during metestrus.
  • Cows with the ID genotype had smaller dominant follicles and corpus albicans compared to those with the II genotype.
