Cyanidin-3-glucoside may improve memory loss in aging mice by changing gut bacteria and activating brain growth signals

Updated

Abstract

Cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3G) may improve cognitive impairment associated with aging.

  • C3G may exert neuroprotective effects by reducing brain atrophy and neuroinflammation.
  • It enhances brain antioxidant capacity and regulates neurotransmitter expression.
  • C3G could improve gut health by decreasing inflammation and promoting tight junction protein expression.
  • Alterations in gut microbiota composition and increased levels of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were observed.
  • Increased SCFAs may activate signaling pathways associated with brain health and behavioral improvement.
