Cycloneolitsol extends worm lifespan through stress response pathways and reduces inflammation via the NF-κB pathway

Updated

Abstract

Cycloneolitsol (CL) improved the lifespan of Caenorhabditis elegans and exhibited anti-inflammatory effects in macrophages.

  • Chronic low-grade inflammation, termed 'inflammaging,' is linked to aging and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • CL demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory effects against LPS-induced M1-type polarization in macrophages through the NF-κB signaling pathway.
  • In C. elegans, CL enhanced biological characteristics and extended lifespan without causing reproductive toxicity.
  • CL activated autophagy and boosted the antioxidant stress response via the SEK-1/PMK-1/SKN-1 signaling pathway, as confirmed by experiments on various mutant strains.
