Abstract

Elite youth soccer players consumed 43.1 ± 10.3 kcal·kg·day in the U18 squad, with significant differences in macronutrient intake across age groups.

  • Total energy intake was highest in the U13/14 squad compared to U15/16 and U18 squads.
  • Carbohydrate intake at breakfast, dinner, and snacks was lower in U18 players compared to younger squads, with no differences noted at lunch.
  • U15/16 players had a lower relative daily protein intake than the U13/14 and U18 players.
  • All age groups exhibited a skewed distribution of daily protein intake, with dinner contributing the most.
  • Current carbohydrate intake guidelines for elite youth soccer players are not being met.
