One-Week Diet of Young Professional Soccer Players During the Competitive Season

Abstract

Professional male soccer players (n = 10) had a mean daily energy deficit of 788 ± 174 kcal during a competitive week.

  • Carbohydrates made up 56 ± 1% of mean daily energy intake, while proteins and fats contributed 16 ± 1% and 31 ± 1%, respectively.
  • The intake of fiber was significantly lower than Recommended Nutrient Intake values, at 67% of the RNI.
  • Daily energy expenditures were higher than intake, with expenditures at 3,618 ± 61 kcal compared to an intake of 2,831 ± 164 kcal.
  • Mean daily fluid intake was recorded at 3.2 ± 0.3 L.
  • Nutritional practices observed may not adequately support optimal performance during training and matches.
