Long-term low valine diet improves health and lifespan differently in male and female mice

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Lifelong valine restriction improved healthspan in male and female mice but extended lifespan only in males.

Evidence

This preclinical dietary intervention study in C57BL/6J mice measured metabolic health, frailty, lifespan, and multi-tissue transcriptional profiles under lifelong valine restriction.

Caveat

The lifespan benefit was male-specific in mice, so effects in females and humans remain unproven.
