Different Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Semaglutide and Tirzepatide in Diabetes

Abstract

Thirty BALB/c mice were used to evaluate the effects of semaglutide and tirzepatide on inflammation in diabetes.

  • Semaglutide and tirzepatide treatment led to reduced inflammatory responses in diabetic mice, in contrast to control groups that showed increased inflammation.
  • Control groups exhibited rising levels of interleukin-1β and pentraxin-3, indicating ongoing inflammation.
  • Male mice treated with semaglutide and tirzepatide maintained stable interleukin-1β levels, while female mice showed persistent elevations, especially in the tirzepatide group.
  • Pentraxin-3 responses varied by sex, with female mice treated with semaglutide showing the most stable inflammatory profile.
  • These findings highlight the potential for sex-dependent differences in early inflammatory responses to these antidiabetic drugs.
