How dinner makeup affects fat, carb, and protein burning after eating in young girls

Updated

Abstract

Fat oxidation was not significantly different after a low-fat (20% fat) versus a high-fat (50% fat) dinner in 10 prepubertal obese girls.

  • The girls oxidized 1.8 times more fat after the low-fat meal compared to 0.3 times more after the high-fat meal.
  • Carbohydrate oxidation was significantly higher after the low-fat meal than after the high-fat meal.
  • Spontaneous energy intake at breakfast was similar following both low-fat and high-fat dinners.
  • Macronutrient proportions at breakfast did not differ between the two meal types.
