Switching from DPP-4 inhibitors to oral semaglutide and its link to oxidative stress and blood sugar fluctuations in type 2 diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Switching to oral semaglutide for 24 weeks significantly reduced oxidative stress and glucose variability in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

  • Fifty-eight patients were randomized, with 30 receiving semaglutide and 28 continuing DPP-4 inhibitors.
  • Data analysis included 24 patients from the semaglutide group and 27 from the DPP-4 inhibitor group after dropouts.
  • A significant reduction in oxidative stress was observed in the semaglutide group compared to the DPP-4 inhibitor group.
  • Glucose variability and hemoglobin A1c levels also significantly decreased in patients switched to semaglutide.
  • No significant difference was found in Diabetes Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire scores between the two treatment groups.
