Low-dose ketamine and (2R,6R)-Hydroxynorketamine effects on mood during long-term oxycodone withdrawal

Updated

Abstract

Both (2R,6R)-HNK and ketamine may help improve symptoms during oxycodone withdrawal.

  • In mice with oxycodone withdrawal, both (2R,6R)-HNK and ketamine improved mood-related behaviors.
  • The treatments were equally effective when given early in withdrawal, specifically on withdrawal day 1.
  • Using an AMPA receptor blocker reduced the effectiveness of the treatments in one of the tests.
  • When given later, on withdrawal day 29, the treatments still helped with one behavior but not others.
  • These results suggest that (2R,6R)-HNK and ketamine could be useful for managing withdrawal symptoms.
