Short-term and lasting psychological effects of a combined DMT and harmala alkaloid treatment in a phase 1 study

Updated

Abstract

Essence

An encapsulated DMT-harmala alkaloid combination produced intense acute psychedelic experiences in healthy volunteers that were linked to beneficial persisting psychological effects.

Evidence

This phase 1 study analyzed 17 dosing sessions in 9 healthy volunteers using MEQ-30, 5D-ASC, and SIME measures and found dose-related increases in acute experience scores with associations to later psychological effects.

Caveat

The evidence comes from a very small healthy-volunteer sample, so the persisting benefits are preliminary and not proof of therapeutic effect or safety in patients.
