Dopamine changes how light signals from rods and cones combine in frog eye cells
Updated
Abstract
Dopamine (greater than or equal to 2 microM) increased cone input while suppressing rod input to horizontal cells in the Xenopus retina.
- Dopamine at 10 microM depolarized horizontal cells by about 9 mV.
- D2-dopamine antagonists spiperone and metoclopramide demonstrated opposite effects to dopamine.
- D1-dopamine antagonist SCH 23390 did not affect horizontal cell activity.
- Light-evoked responses of rods were not modified by any of the agents tested.
