How Different Work Schedules Affect Sleep in Miners

Updated

Abstract

Total sleep time (TST) was longer on days off (7.0 ± 1.9 hours) compared to sleep during day (6.0 ± 1.0 hours) and night shifts (6.2 ± 1.6 hours).

  • Different rostering schedules were assessed for their impact on sleep and subjective sleep quality.
  • Participants experienced significant sleep restriction during work times.
  • Despite longer sleep on days off, recovery from sleep loss may be inadequate.
  • Restricted sleep and rapid shift changes could contribute to ongoing fatigue and long-term sleep loss.
