Effectiveness of an Online Education Program for People with Type 2 Diabetes Over Six Months

Abstract

Patients in the digital intervention group experienced a 3.7% reduction in glycated hemoglobin (HbA) compared to 2.6% in the control group over 6 months.

  • The digital intervention led to a body weight reduction of -8.7 kg in the intervention group versus -4.9 kg in the control group.
  • Participants receiving digital support showed a greater decrease in fasting plasma glucose levels, averaging 122.6 mg/dL compared to 70.5 mg/dL in the control group.
  • Knowledge about diabetes improved significantly more in the intervention group, with an increase of 0.3 points compared to 1.5 points in the control group on the Diabetes Knowledge Scale.
  • Medication adherence improved by 13.8% in the intervention group, while the control group experienced an 8% decline in adherence.
  • Patient satisfaction, measured by the Diabetes Quality of Life Questionnaire, decreased in the control group but saw a marked reduction of -13.7 in the intervention group.
