Elder abuse and related factors among older women in Tehran, Iran

Abstract

Overall, 90.4% of elderly women experienced at least one type of abuse.

  • Authority deprivation was the most common type of abuse, affecting 68.5% of participants.
  • Rejection was the least common type of abuse, reported by 11.2% of subjects.
  • Elderly women over 72 years old were more likely to experience severe abuse, with an odds ratio of 2.07 compared to those aged 60-62.
  • Domestic elder abuse is prevalent among older women in Tehran.
  • Old age is associated with an increased risk of domestic elder abuse.
