Abstract

Electroacupuncture pretreatment significantly reduces reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde levels in the myocardial tissue of rats with myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury.

  • Increased levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were observed in the myocardial tissue of the model group compared to the sham-operation group.
  • Electroacupuncture pretreatment resulted in a decrease in ROS and MDA levels, along with a reduction in the positive expression of mitochondrial fission factors in the treated rats.
  • The content of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the protein expression of AMPK and Nrf2 were significantly elevated following electroacupuncture pretreatment.
  • Mitochondrial dysfunction and structural abnormalities, such as cell swelling and fiber rupture, were notably alleviated in the electroacupuncture pretreatment group compared to the model group.
