Combined empagliflozin and liraglutide treatment may protect the pancreas and kidneys from tacrolimus damage by reducing oxidative stress

Updated

Abstract

The combined use of empagliflozin and liraglutide may protect against damage to the pancreas and kidneys caused by tacrolimus.

  • Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists are commonly used for managing type 2 diabetes.
  • Tacrolimus is associated with adverse effects on pancreatic and renal function.
  • Empagliflozin and liraglutide are proposed to offer protective effects against these adverse effects.
