Natural Gut Hormone Signals Reduce Airway Inflammation Caused by Air Allergens

Abstract

Deficiency of both GLP-1R and GIPR signaling significantly increased TSLP release in mice exposed to allergen.

  • TSLP levels were significantly higher in mice lacking both GLP-1R and GIPR compared to other strains after allergen exposure.
  • Increased protein expression of IL-5, IL-13, CCL11, and CCL24 was observed in the lungs of GLP-1R/GIPR double knockout mice challenged with the allergen.
  • The number of eosinophils, lymphocytes, and neutrophils in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid was significantly elevated in GLP-1R/GIPR double knockout mice.
  • An increase in lung GATA3+ ILC2 cells was noted in the absence of GLP-1R and GIPR signaling when exposed to the allergen.
  • ICAM-1 expression on lung epithelial cells was also higher in GLP-1R/GIPR double knockout mice after allergen challenge.
