Abstract
Out of 295 questionnaires received, 214 were valid, resulting in a 72.54% response rate.
- The average age of nurses participating was 43.55 years, with 70.6% identifying as female.
- The overall average score on the Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index (PES-NWI) was 2.45.
- Three subscales related to nursing foundations for quality of care, nurse manager leadership and support, and nurse-physician relations scored above 2.5, indicating a mixed evaluation of the work environment.
- Professional category and function were significantly associated with perceptions of the work environment (P <.001).
- Nurses in management positions rated their work environment more positively compared to their peers.
- Nurse-physician relations were perceived more favorably in primary care and nursing homes than in hospitals.
