All 34 participants aged 48-81 years with metabolic syndrome showed a faster pace of biological aging than average at baseline.

  • Metabolic syndrome is associated with an elevated risk of age-related cardiometabolic diseases and advanced biological aging.
  • Participants adhered to the dietary intervention of consuming 1 oz of tree nuts and two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil daily with over 95% compliance.
  • Most participants expressed a strong interest in learning their biological age and indicated that evidence of slowed aging would motivate dietary changes.
  • No significant changes in biological aging were observed after the 4-week dietary intervention.
  • These findings suggest that biological aging measures may be useful for participant engagement in dietary intervention trials.
