Epigenetic Aging and How People Respond to Semaglutide in the SLIM LIVER Study

Abstract

A median change of DunedinPACE was +0.018 over 24 weeks in people with HIV and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease receiving semaglutide.

  • 41.5% of participants showed a decrease in DunedinPACE, which was associated with significantly greater reductions in liver fat.
  • Improvements in gait speed corresponded with changes in DunedinPACE, indicating better physical function.
  • Participants with increased telomere length (PCDNAmTL) also demonstrated greater improvements in gait speed.
  • No significant associations were found with changes in the mortality risk biomarker (PCGrimAge).
  • Findings suggest that semaglutide may influence epigenetic aging markers linked to metabolic and physical health.
