New DNA methylation sites linked to PTSD found in combined studies of military and civilian groups

Updated

Abstract

Eleven CpG sites are associated with PTSD, identified from a meta-analysis of 5077 participants.

  • Blood DNA methylation differences may reflect biological susceptibility to PTSD and its effects.
  • Fourteen additional CpG sites were identified when analyzing specific groups, such as military versus civilian participants.
  • Many identified CpG loci show correlations between blood and brain tissue methylation levels.
  • Methylation levels at most CpGs are associated with their corresponding gene expression levels.
