Aplastic anemia (AA) is characterized by hypocellular bone marrow and a reduction in blood cells.
- Intrinsic abnormalities in bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) may be linked to inadequate support for blood cell formation.
- Cellular aging and chronic inflammation are associated with changes in BM-MSC function in AA.
