Higher number of primary healthcare visits in Norway in 2024 compared to before the COVID-19 pandemic

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Norwegian primary healthcare use in 2024 exceeded pre-pandemic expectations, especially for conditions linked to acute COVID-19 and PASC.

Evidence

This nationwide surveillance modeling study used 102 ICPC-2 primary care codes and 2010-2019 baseline trends to estimate 1,185,231 excess consultations, a 7.1% relative excess, in 2024.

Caveat

The data cannot distinguish acute COVID-19 from PASC, and other factors also may have contributed to excess consultations.
