Abstract

Exendin-4 treatment significantly reduced serum glucose and hepatic steatosis in ob/ob mice.

  • Ob/ob mice showed a sustained reduction in net weight gain during Exendin-4 treatment.
  • Insulin sensitivity improved in ob/ob mice as measured by the homeostasis model assessment.
  • Oxidative stress levels, indicated by thiobarbituric reactive substances, were significantly reduced in Exendin-4 treated ob/ob mice.
  • GLP-1 treatment in rat hepatocytes led to increased cAMP production and decreased expression of genes related to fat synthesis.
  • Conversely, genes associated with fatty acid oxidation increased in response to GLP-1 treatment.
