4291 participants were involved in randomized studies assessing exercise training for adults undergoing dialysis.

  • Exercise training for two to 12 months may improve fatigue in adults undergoing dialysis, though a meta-analysis could not be conducted.
  • The physical component of health-related quality of life may improve with exercise training, with moderate certainty evidence suggesting a mean difference of 4.12 points on a 100-point scale.
  • Exercise training probably improves depressive symptoms, particularly with maintenance beyond four months, showing a standard mean difference of -0.65.
  • Functional capacity may also improve, with evidence indicating an increase of 49.91 meters in walking distance during a six-minute test.
  • The effects of exercise on death, cardiovascular events, and the mental component of health-related quality of life remain uncertain due to low certainty evidence.
