Increasing external beam radiation dose for aggressive brain tumors

Updated

Abstract

Postoperative radiotherapy is associated with a hazard ratio of 2.01 for improved overall survival in adults with high grade glioma compared to supportive care.

  • There was an overall survival benefit for people with high grade glioma receiving postoperative radiotherapy.
  • The overall survival was similar between hypofractionated and conventional radiotherapy, with a hazard ratio of 0.95.
  • Hypofractionated and conventional radiotherapy were well tolerated, with only mild acute adverse effects reported.
  • In participants aged 60 years and older with glioblastoma, the overall survival was also similar between hypofractionated and conventional radiotherapy.
  • Insufficient data exist regarding the efficacy of hyperfractionated and accelerated radiotherapy compared to conventional radiotherapy.
