FAM83D may block cell recycling and increase growth and spread of ovarian cancer cells through the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway

Updated

Abstract

High expression levels of FAM83D were found in ovarian cancer tissues compared to normal ovarian tissues.

  • Knockdown of FAM83D in ovarian cancer cells increased autophagy and reduced cellular proliferation and invasion.
  • Ectopic expression of FAM83D had the opposite effect, promoting both proliferation and invasion.
  • FAM83D overexpression activated the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway.
  • The inhibitor Torin1 was able to suppress the cell proliferation and invasion induced by FAM83D.
  • In vivo studies showed that overexpression of FAM83D led to increased tumor growth.
