Family history of cancer linked to higher risk of Long COVID in US adults

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Family history of cancer was linked to higher self-reported Long COVID prevalence among U.S. adults without cancer.

Evidence

A nationally representative cross-sectional analysis of 25,389 adults in the 2023 National Health Interview Survey found Long COVID prevalence of 8.4% and an adjusted prevalence ratio of 1.19 after accounting for health conditions.

Caveat

The study is observational and cross-sectional, so self-reported family history, health conditions, and Long COVID cannot establish a causal or genetic mechanism.
