  • FoxO proteins play a role in cell survival pathways that involve growth factors and various signaling mechanisms.
  • They are associated with the regulation of proinflammatory pathways and the production and toxicity of amyloid (Aβ) in the nervous system.
  • FoxOs may contribute to mitochondrial dysfunction and neuronal cell death, which are linked to the progression of degenerative diseases.
  • In certain conditions, FoxO proteins can protect the nervous system by promoting autophagy and reducing toxic protein accumulations.
