Creating a Real-World Data Set to Check Wearable Tracking of Activity, Rest, Sleep, and Heart Rate in Adults

Updated

Abstract

The OxWEARS study aims to generate an openly accessible dataset containing more than 10,000 annotated hours from a diverse sample of adults.

  • Validation will be conducted for accelerometer-based measurements of physical behaviors across five body sites against video data.
  • Sleep and sleep staging measurements from five body sites will be validated against polysomnography.
  • Heart rate measurements from wrist-worn devices will be validated against chest-worn electrocardiograms.
  • The study will recruit approximately 160 adults aged 40 and older, stratified by age, sex, and BMI.
  • Data collection is ongoing, with completion expected in 2026.
