Frequent Sweetened Drink Intake Is Linked to Faster Biological Aging and Changes in Gut Bacteria

Updated

Abstract

Frequent sweetened beverage consumption is associated with an acceleration of biological age by 0.29 years.

  • The study involved 9,104 adults aged 18-80 years from the WELL-China cohort.
  • Biological age acceleration was estimated using a specific method (Klemera and Doubal method).
  • The association between sweetened beverage consumption and biological aging was particularly pronounced in participants under 55 years.
  • Ten gut microbial genera were significantly linked to frequent sweetened beverage consumption.
  • Fifty-six gut microbial genera were associated with biological age acceleration, with five genera common to both analyses.
