Gut hormone levels and hunger feelings after low-carb versus low-fat low-calorie diets in women with lipedema

Updated

Abstract

55 females participated in an 8-week diet intervention, with the low-carbohydrate group losing 10.3% of their weight.

  • The low-carbohydrate diet (LCD) resulted in a significant reduction in post-meal ghrelin levels compared to the low-fat diet.
  • Participants on the LCD reported increased feelings of fullness after meals, although these changes were not significantly different from those on the low-fat diet.
  • Only the low-fat diet group experienced increased hunger levels while fasting.
  • Both diet groups showed a decrease in a hormone associated with digestion (CCK) after meals.
