The survival rate of eIF4EBP3-/- mutations in two fruit fly species was significantly reduced under cold treatments.

  • eIF4EBP3 is associated with the regulation of several downstream heat shock proteins in both Bactrocera species.
  • Mutations in eIF4EBP3 may impact the ability of Bactrocera dorsalis and Bactrocera correcta to adapt rapidly to cold temperatures.
  • This work marks the first use of the CRISPR-Cas9 system in Bactrocera correcta, enabling future research on this pest.
  • Insights gained could inform the development of monitoring strategies for cold tolerance in field populations of these species.
