General and health quality of life in people with seasonal and nonseasonal depression

Updated

Abstract

Mean Q-LES-Q scores for patients with seasonal affective disorder (SAD) were 44%, compared to 83% for the general population.

  • Both generic and health-related quality of life (QoL) are compromised in patients with SAD compared to general population norms.
  • Patients with nonseasonal major depressive disorder (MDD) exhibited significantly poorer functioning in several domains of the SF-20.
  • No significant differences in Q-LES-Q scores were found between patients with SAD and those with nonseasonal depression.
  • The degree of impairment in perceived QoL is similar between seasonal and nonseasonal depression when assessed using the Q-LES-Q.
  • Significant differences in QoL were observed across various domains of the SF-20 between the two groups.
