Updated

Abstract

Obesity was considerably more frequent among diabetic subjects, with a significant association found between diabetes and consanguineous marriage.

  • The mean age of diabetic patients was 45.5 years, compared to 42.4 years for controls.
  • Statistically significant differences in body mass index, education level, consanguineous marriage, and number of children were observed between diabetic and control subjects.
  • A family history of diabetes in first-degree relatives was reported in 62.1% of diabetic patients, compared to 44.4% of controls.
  • Diabetes was found to be significantly more common in individuals from consanguineous marriages, with 33.1% of diabetic subjects affected versus 24.6% of controls.
  • Higher systolic blood pressure and fasting glucose levels were significantly noted in diabetic patients compared to controls.
  • Several risk factors for diabetes were identified, including smoking, consanguinity, body mass index, education level, number of children, and systolic blood pressure.
