Use of GLP-1 Receptor Medicines in Patients Having Wrist Fracture Surgery: A Review of Surgery-Time Factors

Abstract

GLP-1 receptor agonist use among patients undergoing surgical fixation for distal radius fractures increased from 0.4% in 2019 to 2.9% in 2024.

  • Only 46 out of 4,811 patients (1.0%) were identified as GLP-1 RA users over a six-year period.
  • Semaglutide was the most frequently used GLP-1 RA in the cohort.
  • Postoperative nausea was reported in only one GLP-1 RA user (2.2%).
  • There were no documented cases of aspiration or serious complications among GLP-1 RA users.
