Links between diabetes drugs and heart health after valve replacement surgery

Updated

Abstract

A decrease in all-cause mortality was observed in patients treated with GLP-1 receptor agonists after transcatheter aortic valve replacement.

  • Patients treated with GLP-1 receptor agonists after TAVR showed a reduction in all-cause mortality compared to those not treated.
  • A statistically significant decrease in arrhythmia was noted in patients using SGLT2 inhibitors after TAVR compared to untreated patients.
  • Combining GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors was associated with decreased rates of all-cause mortality, myocardial infarction, acute heart failure, and arrhythmia after TAVR.
  • These findings suggest potential cardioprotective effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors in post-TAVR patients.
