Clinical Outcomes of GLP-1 Receptor Agonist Treatment in Cancer Patients

Updated

Abstract

Twenty-six studies evaluated the association of GLP-1 receptor agonists with oncologic and survival outcomes in patients with cancer.

  • Overall survival and all-cause mortality outcomes more frequently favored GLP-1 receptor agonist use compared to nonuse.
  • Findings regarding survival were less consistent in analyses that compared active treatments.
  • Nine studies assessed cancer recurrence and progression, with evidence being sparse and varied.
  • No clear increase in risk for cancer recurrence or progression was observed.
  • The observational nature of the studies limits the ability to establish causality or direct antitumor effects.
