Real-life Effects of GLP-1 Medicines on Quality of Life in Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity

Updated

Abstract

Among 135 patients, the EQ-5D index increased from 0.71 to 0.79 after 44 weeks of treatment with glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists.

  • Significant improvements in glucose, HbA1c, LDL-C, waist circumference, body weight, and BMI were observed.
  • Health-related quality of life showed improvement in mobility, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression.
  • The visual analogue scale (VAS) score rose from 58.3 to 65.3 (P = 0.007).
  • Greater enhancements in health-related quality of life measures were noted in patients achieving ≥5% weight loss.
  • Both subcutaneous and oral semaglutide contributed to improvements in the EQ-5D index, while oral semaglutide also enhanced VAS and mental health scores.
