Use of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists Linked to Lower Early Hip Replacement Revision Risk Compared to Weight-Loss Surgery

Updated

Abstract

Obesity is a major modifiable risk factor in total hip arthroplasty (THA), associated with increased complications.

  • Weight loss can reduce the risk of complications in patients undergoing THA.
  • Bariatric surgery has been the traditional approach to achieve significant weight loss.
  • Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are emerging as an alternative for weight management.
  • The effectiveness and safety of GLP-1 RAs in this context may warrant further investigation.
